MUMBAI, India (July 03, 2014) – Today, Nissan launched the New Nissan Sunny in India. The new model goes on sale immediately at all Nissan dealerships across the country.

The New Sunny is based on the popular tenth generation model but receives comprehensive updates inside and out, making it bolder, more appealing and even more desirable..

The New Sunny breaks convention with its bold, fresh face courtesy of a bigger front grille and boomerang shaped headlamps, while chrome detailing around the car gives the sedan a classy appearance.

The new car also features sophisticated interiors complete with redesigned dashboard, piano black center console with premium audio system and a new premium steering wheel with added functionality.

The tenth generation Sunny was first launched in India in 2011 and has been Nissan’s flagship sedan in the country ever since. The New Sunny builds on this solid foundation and fortifies Nissan’s presence in the increasingly popular B-Sedan segment.

Speaking at the occasion, Andy Palmer, Chief Planning Officer, Nissan Motor Corporation said, “India is a key strategic growth market for Nissan. We continue to monitor its evolution extremely closely to ensure our expanding product portfolio fits regional needs. The New Sunny is our answer that responds to the changing demands and desires."

“When first introduced in 2011, the Sunny redefined the spaciousness and value proposition in its segment, setting new benchmarks in India. The aspirations of Indian sedan customers have evolved since then but we are confident that the New Sunny is now even better equipped to meet and surpass them. The new model will strengthen our presence within this crucially important and growing segment,” said Kenichiro Yomura, President, Nissan India Operations.

Ajay Raghuvanshi, Vice President – Sales, Marketing & Dealer Development, Nissan Motor India Private Ltd, added, “Sunny remains our flagship sedan in India and is the most spacious car in its segment. This combination of comfort and space has always been Sunny’s USP. With the new model, we have enhanced the comfort, functional and practical aspects of the car even further. The premium styling will be appreciated by buyers looking for elegance and sophistication.”

 New Sunny Highlights:

The New Sunny has a strong global heritage owing to its durability, economy, interior roominess and safety. Nissan has now given its acclaimed sedan a step up in terms of premium, distinctive styling, class-leading space and comfort features.

The model’s sleek and smooth silhouette is further accentuated by a premium front end with bigger and bolder grille, boomerang-shaped headlamps and an all-new bumper. New fog lamps with chrome finishers and generous chrome highlights in the grille surround and front bumper lower lip give the car a brand new identity.

The rear end also gets the premium touch with redesigned, flared bumper, black diffuser cladding, chrome trunk garnish and short antenna at the rear end of the roof. Other styling features include chrome door sills, Outside Rear View Mirror (ORVM) mounted turn signals and stylish 12-spoke Y-pattern alloys.

The New Sunny will be available in a choice of six colours with three new shades - Pearl White, Deep Grey and Nightshade. The sedan will also be available in Onyx Black, Bronze Grey and Blade Silver.

The changes are not limited to the exteriors but continue on the inside, adding to the functionality and comfort of the spacious interiors. An enhanced dashboard with piano black finish center console and Bluetooth-enabled premium audio lend a richer feel. XV variants get a 5.1-inch display for the audio system, which also doubles up as a display for the rear parking camera. The New Sunny also gets an all-new steering wheel with integrated audio and telephone controls.

The model retains the ‘best in class’ interior space and also comes with a host of luxury and comfort features including leather seats, individual rear reading lamps and air blower for rear passengers. The NVH levels have also been improved for a quieter cabin.

The New Sunny is equipped with even more safety features. ABS, EBD and Brake Assist is standard across all variants as is the driver airbag, while a passenger airbag is available from XV grade onwards. Buyers can also opt for side airbags on the XV Premium Safety variant.

The New Sunny retains its proven powerplants from the tenth generation model. The 1.5-litre HR15 petrol engine and 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine continue to serve under the New Sunny’s hood.

The petrol engine will be available with a choice of 5-speed manual and Xtronic CVT automatic transmission, while the diesel variants are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The petrol variants offer ARAI certified fuel efficiency figures of 16.95kmpl and 17.97kmpl for manual and CVT transmission respectively. The figure has improved to 22.71kmpl now for the diesel variants.
